1. Impression towards the subject research and project.
Initially, this is my first time I was been exposed and learned about this subject that called as “Research and project, (ENG 4423)”. At first, I thought this subject is going to be quite easy and not so complicated to study it. Unfortunately, my first impression is not as I’m imagine and picture because when I learned more about this subject, I found it become more difficult and quite hard to understand it. Furthermore, when I keep learning, I’m also found that this subject is complicated and there is many things that need to do, especially when it comes to the aspect of finishing the task or assignment given by the lecturer. There many steps that needs to be followed and need to be done in finishing the task given. Overall, at the end I found this subject is really interesting and I have learned many new things from it which is very useful and helpful even in my studying and also after graduates, especially during the working time.
2. Experiences in learning this subject.
My first experience started when our lecturer, Madam Umi Kalsom explain about this subject in the class. Actually, she is replacing Madam Zalinda that on leave and she introduced and explained what this subject is all about. Besides that, she is also explaining to us the topic that we’re going to cover in this subject. Furthermore, she also explained about the objectives of teach this subject which aims to develop an understanding of the systematic process of academic research and skills of enquiry, critical analysis, consultation, discussion and presentation. It also intend to develop an awareness of the use of English in interaction among the students itself and with other people outside. Then, our first task also were been explain and given by her in the class which is we’re require to do a research project. Then, we’re started the task by finding a suitable topic where for our class the topic is must be something that related with communication. So, I have chosen a topic which is about the benefit from the proper usage of telephone communication etiquette in daily life, especially during the working time. After that, we’re beginning the task with preparing the research proposal which shows and explain details about the purpose and the things that we’re going to find through the research. Some of the aspects that we need to prepare in the proposal are the questionnaires and the interview question part. Then, Madam Zalinda takes over the class back and the process in finishing the proposal were continued until the due date. Thankful to God, I’m finally finished the proposal, but it does not stop at that point because there are still many steps and things need to be done. Next, the step is the collecting, gathering and processing the data and all the information needed in the research. Lastly, is the report writing that shows the result of the research and also the presentation on the findings of the research. Although there are many things that need to be done in finishing the task, but it gives me a lot of knowledge and also experiences that other students might not ever be able to get the chance to feel and have it in their life. Learning this subject is giving me very wonderful and valuable experiences in my life, especially on how to conducting a research.
3. Difficulties and challenging in collecting the data.
There are many steps that we need to do in order to make sure that the research achieved its objective. Some of the steps are distribute the questionnaires to the respondents and also held an interview with an interviewee that also among the respondents. During the process of distributing the questionnaires, there are some difficulties that I have to face. The first one is choosing the best time to go to the respondent’s place which is at University of Technology Mara Seri Iskandra, Perak. It is because the place is quite far from my hometown and most of the respondents also very busy with their works. So, I have to wait for quite a long time to distribute and also to collect back the questionnaires to them. Other than that, I’m also face a problem during the interview process where at last minute the interviewee canceled the appointment because she has other work to do. So, I have to find a new date and day to hold the interview session. Finally, the interview session went smoothly and successfully and the interviewee also gives a very good response during the interview session. Then, we proceed with the collecting data parts and this is the most difficult part where I have some problems in calculating the percentage of the respondents for each question in my questionnaire. I have went to many consultation with Madam Zalinda in order to make sure that my findings part is exact and follow the requirements needed in the marking form.
4. Memorable moments learning this project.
My first impression towards this subject is not exactly as I’m imagining because the reality this subject is more difficult and complicated. But, there are many sweet and memorable memories during the learning process of this subject. Some of them are make new relationships. I was able to meet with many new people which all of them are older than me. It is because my respondents are among the workers which around 24 years and above. So, the chance to meet and corporate with them is such a wonderful moment because of the nice treatment and good responses given by them to me. Other than that, from this subject also teach me on how to conduct my own research and writing a report that is very important and useful when I’m already step in the working environment. Besides that, I’m also manages to find the benefits and the importance in following the proper telephone etiquette in our daily life. From the research, I found that it is really benefited to us and since there I’m started to be more alert and use it especially when I’m using the telephone.
